Coffee Mint Sugar Scrub

Nothing can be more relaxing than sipping a hot cup of coffee in the morning. As the coffee starts to calm your mind, its aroma works its way to your senses, slowly drawing your body to achieve Zen. But if you are not a coffee enthusiast, you may not enjoy all the sipping to the fullest. However, you don’t need to feel out-of-place if you can’t enjoy all these, after all, there are a lot of ways to enjoy coffee without actually drinking it.

One good way to be “in” in the coffee craze is to actually use coffee as an exfoliating agent in the form of a body sugar scrub. Coffee contains elements that can treat redness and inflammation, revitalize skin cells, and soothe irritation. It also has a mending power that can heal broken skin. The caffeine element of coffee helps reduce the appearance of “eye bags” or the under-eye circles. Another best benefit of coffee sugar scrub is that it can provide UV protection – blocks out the harmful sun rays and fights early signs of ageing and skin cancer.

It is amazing that all of these benefits can be stored in a canister of coffee. You can buy it at any health and beauty shops, but then why buy when you can do it on your own. If you are a do-it-yourself (D.I.Y) enthusiast – regardless of your level of enthusiasm towards coffee – you might consider making a coffee scrub with a touch of sugar and mint.

To start your Coffee Mint Sugar Scrub prepare the following ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons of ground coffee (As an advice, buy whole bean coffee and grind it on your own because the aroma is much fresher compared to those pre-ground coffees in the market)
  • 6 cups of sugar (You can use refined or coarse sugar)
  • 12 drops of peppermint essential oil
  • 3/4 cup of sweet almond oil (you can also use olive oil or coconut oil)
  • 2 teaspoons of Vitamin E
  • 3/4 cup of cocoa butter (optional)

Mix all these ingredients in a large bowl and use fork to thoroughly blend all the ingredients. Let it sit for a while to let the sugar absorb the peppermint essential oil, and the almond oil. If the mixture had set and no longer looks greasy, you can already transfer the coffee mint sugar scrub mixture into a jar or a canister. Be sure to store the mixture in airtight canisters.

If you want to add more chocolate-y scent to your scrub, you can add ¾ cup of cocoa butter. To prepare, melt the cocoa butter in the almond oil using a double boiler. Let it cool a little before adding it in the bowl (before mixing all the ingredients).

Coffee is known to contain caffeine. As it makes coffee enthusiast crave more for it, non-coffee drinkers also crave for it, in a beauty-related way. Daily use of coffee mint sugar scrub can make your skin evenly toned and smooth. It also helps increase blood flow and reduces cellulite. This coffee mint sugar scrub is safe for all skin types. All you need to do is to scoop a handful of scrub and massage it to your body in a circular motion, and in less than a minute it will work its way into your skin.

You do not need to be a coffee fan to enjoy coffee; you neither have to take a sip to take in all of its benefits. With this D.I.Y coffee scrub with a touch of sugar and mint, drinkers and non-drinkers can achieve the Zen in and out.
